My name is Boris Klaydman. I’ve been using macs for as long as I can remember (or should I say care to remember), however, like many of you, at work I’m stuck with PCs and Windows. Although I hold Master’s degree in Computer Science (curtsy of Washington University in St. Louis), my job is far from what I really want to do, which is be a Mac Programmer and maybe even work for Apple. Actually, there is a funny story about it, Steve Jobs once offered me an internship, but due to some issues I could not work for Apple then. I may tell you this story in one of the podcast, but enough about it now, I just hope an opportunity will arise again and this time I’m going for it...
My love for Cocoa was “love at first sight.” I did not bother spending time on Carbon and went straight to Cocoa books. Eventually I had fond the best book on the market “Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X”by
Aaron Hillegass. My issue is that I cannot force myself into studying (family, kids, the usual excuses) unless some time constraints are involved. I have started reading this book at least 3 times. But managed to get to about 1/3 of it before something “important” happened and I had to put it away for “a wile.” Once I got back on track I had to start reading from the beginning.
So, I had a crazy though: I should create a Podcast which will cover my progress in going through Aaron’s book weekly and in the process will allow other people to follow me. I had asked Aaron for permission to use his book as a text book for this Podcast and he agreed.
The plan is go through “Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X” while doing all the practice problems and exercises. In addition, we could take tangents and create mini projects that we all could work on and share the experiences, tips, and tricks.
In addition to the Audio Podcast, I will create a Screencast
that you could also subscribe to. I do not want to go far into the future, but hope that we could eventually move to Aaron’s more advanced book - “Advanced Mac OS X Programming” in the same format.
If you share my passion for Cocoa and need someone to share the learning experience with, join me and subscribe to my Podcast.
